Oration for Damon Buffini by Professor Gordon Campbell
Subject
News
Description
Damon Buffini is the managing partner of Permira, which is Europe’s biggest private equity firm. Private equity investors, who are also known as venture capitalists, buy companies with cash and borrowed funds, make them efficient, stronger and more profitable, and then resell them. During the turnaround period the companies are not publicly traded on the stock market, and so are in effect privately owned. It is a huge sector – in the UK one company in three that changes hands is bought by private equity.
